Russia's Plan to Boost Fish and Seafood Exports to China Amid Japan's Ban

Russia aims to increase its fish and seafood exports to China following China's ban on Japanese seafood imports due to concerns over radioactive contamination from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Russia is already a major supplier of marine products to China, and the Russian food safety watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, plans to increase the number of certified Russian companies and ships exporting to China. To facilitate this, Rosselkhoznadzor will continue dialogue with China on seafood safety issues and finalize negotiations on regulations for Russian marine product supply to China. China is a significant market for Russian aquatic products, with pollock, herring, flounder, sardine, cod, and crab being the dominant exports.
