Russia's Plan to Boost Fish and Seafood Exports to China Amid Japan's Ban

Russia aims to boost its fish and seafood exports to China following China's ban on Japanese seafood imports due to concerns over radioactive contamination from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Russia, already a major supplier of marine products to China, plans to increase the number of certified Russian companies and ships exporting to China. The Russian food safety watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, will continue dialogue with China on seafood safety issues and finalize negotiations on regulations for Russian marine product supply. China accounted for over half of Russia's aquatic product exports, including pollock, herring, flounder, sardine, cod, and crab.
