North Korea's most advanced drones, the Saetbyol-4 and Saetbyol-9, resembling U.S.-made RQ-4 Global Hawk and MQ-9 Reaper UAVs, have reemerged in images posted on Weibo, while the country also conducted a test of a solid fuel intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) with a hypersonic maneuverable controlled warhead. The drones were first unveiled in July 2023 and are described as a strategic reconnaissance drone and a multi-purpose attack drone. The test-firing of the IRBM aimed to verify the gliding and maneuvering characteristics of the hypersonic warhead and the reliability of newly developed multi-stage high-thrust solid-fuel engines. North Korea's advancements in solid fuel missile designs and hypersonic boost glide vehicles pose significant challenges and threats to U.S. interests.
