Multiple U.S. Military Units Deployed to Middle East for Defense and Support

Army air defense units from Fort Bliss, Fort Liberty, and Fort Sill are being deployed to the Middle East in response to more than a dozen drone and rocket attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria, which the Pentagon has attributed to Iranian proxies. The units will bring Patriot missile batteries and a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery to the region. The deployment comes as the U.S. increases its support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas, including the deployment of aircraft carrier strike groups, fighter jets, and military advisers. The Pentagon expects the threat to U.S. forces to grow as the conflict continues.
