Mount Mayon volcano prompts mass evacuation in the Philippines.

Nearly 13,000 residents have been evacuated from the southeast of the Philippines' main island as Mount Mayon, the country's most active volcano, began spewing lava and sulfuric gas. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recommended everyone within a 6-kilometer radius of the volcano be evacuated due to the danger of rockfalls, landslides, and ballistic fragments. The agency warned that a "hazardous eruption is possible within weeks or even days" after detecting a "relatively high level of unrest" at the volcano.
