The EU has signed off on new sanctions aimed at cracking down on illicit sales of Russian crude oil that Western nations fear are helping fund the war in Ukraine. The measures will prohibit vessels suspected of shady practices from entering EU ports, and tankers will have to notify authorities if they are planning a ship-to-ship oil transfer "at least 48 hours in advance" within specific geographical areas. The sanctions will also name and shame companies that fall foul of the rules.
