Germany and Japan strengthen ties in Tokyo meeting.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his cabinet members visited Japan to deepen collaboration and diversify ties, with a focus on economic security, defense cooperation, and geopolitical security. The two countries share mutual interests in fighting the climate crisis, food security, cybersecurity, telecommunications, and sourcing critical minerals. Germany and Japan plan to intensify collaboration to reduce dependencies on China, but uncoupling from China is not an option for either country. The German delegation was accompanied by a business delegation, and the deepened collaboration between relevant agencies is expected to give businesses a better idea where to invest in projects.
