"Germany to Strengthen NATO's Eastern Flank with 4,000 Troops in Lithuania"

Germany has offered to permanently station around 4,000 troops in Lithuania to strengthen NATO's eastern flank. The move comes in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Germany's own history as the country on NATO's eastern flank during the Cold War. Lithuania has welcomed the announcement and plans to build up the necessary infrastructure by 2026. Germany's military has already been present in Lithuania for six years with several hundred soldiers, leading a NATO battlegroup with currently about 1,600 soldiers.
