Libyan Parliament Suspends and Replaces Eastern-based PM Bashagha

Libya's eastern-based parliament has suspended Prime Minister Fathi Bashagha and assigned his duties to his finance minister, Osama Hamada. Bashagha, who was appointed last year, has been unable to enter the capital Tripoli or take over from Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah, leading to a standoff between the two. The powerful eastern faction supports Bashagha, while the numerous factions controlling Tripoli and the rest of the northwest oppose him. Libya has been split between rival administrations since 2014, leading to several bouts of conflict.
