Pakistan's Plan to Deport 1.7 Million Undocumented Afghans Sparks Concerns

Pakistan's government has announced that all undocumented migrants and refugees, including hundreds of thousands of Afghans, must leave the country by November 1, citing a rise in violent attacks. The government alleges that the Afghan Taliban is providing safe harbor to fighters belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has launched over 300 attacks this year. Afghanistan has called the decision "unacceptable" and denied any involvement in Pakistan's security problems. Pakistan has conducted similar operations in the past, but with limited success. The country is home to an estimated 1.3 million Afghan refugees, and the government has not disclosed its plans for deportation.
