The Russian opposition is being silenced as the Kremlin intensifies its crackdown on dissenting voices. This week, two prominent opponents of the current regime, Vladimir Kara-Murza and Ilya Yashin, were handed jail sentences for publicly condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Both men were convicted of treason and spreading "false" information about the Russian military. As the Russian opposition weakens, there are almost "no options for expressing criticism" in Russia, according to experts. However, a few voices remain, including Yashin's lawyer Maria Eismont and Memorial co-founder Oleg Orlov, who offer a courageous example at the risk of "being arrested at any moment".
