Slovenia beats Belarus for UN Security Council seat.

Slovenia overwhelmingly defeated Belarus in a contested election for a seat on the UN Security Council, reflecting opposition to Russia's war against Ukraine. The other four countries elected to the council were Guyana, Sierra Leone, Algeria, and South Korea. The new members will replace Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, and United Arab Emirates on Jan. 1, 2023.
