Taiwan's Foreign Minister to Visit Europe Next Week in Exclusive Trip

Taiwan's Foreign Minister, Joseph Wu, will make an unannounced visit to Europe next week, including a security conference in Prague where he is expected to appear with Czech President Petr Pavel, in a diplomatic breakthrough. Taiwan has no formal diplomatic ties with any European country except the Vatican, but there are extensive informal relations, and Central and Eastern European countries have been particularly keen to show support for Taiwan, defying Beijing's anger about such contacts and lessening Taiwan's international diplomatic isolation.
