Violent clashes erupt in Kinshasa as Congo security forces clash with anti-government protesters.

Security forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo fired tear gas and clashed with anti-government protesters in Kinshasa on Saturday. The protesters were demonstrating against alleged irregularities in voter registration, rising living costs, and insecurity in the east of the country. Several opposition leaders called for the protest, including Martin Fayulu and Moise Katumbi. The electoral commission is expected to publish voter registration data on Sunday. Congo is due to hold a general election on Dec. 20, and tensions are rising in the country.
