Indian Courts Reject Twitter's Lawsuits Against Government Blocking and Copyright Infringement

The Karnataka High Court in India has dismissed Twitter's lawsuit against the federal government challenging New Delhi's block orders on tweets and accounts. The court also fined Twitter 5 million Indian rupees ($61,000) for non-compliance with notices and delayed compliance to amendments in India's IT rules. Twitter had filed the plea last year, alleging that the government had abused its power by ordering the removal of tweets, including political content. The verdict comes after Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey claimed that India regularly issued requests for content removal, which was refuted by the federal deputy minister for information technology.
