Jamaica's tourism industry has seen a surge in visitors, with a 94% increase in arrivals from January to March 2022 compared to the same period last year. The influx of tourists has caused long queues and wait times at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay due to a shortage of airport staff. The government plans to invest in technology to streamline airport processes and is pushing through a $70 million modernization and expansion project to accommodate larger aircraft and draw more visitors. The goal is to have 5 million visitors annually by 2025, a 35% increase from the peak of 3.7 million tourists in 2019.
