Freezing rain causes widespread power outages in Ontario and Quebec, affecting over a million people.

Freezing rain and thunderstorms have caused power outages for around 800,000 people in Ontario and Quebec. Quebec's power utility reported that over 676,000 of its 4.5 million customers had no electricity, while in Montreal, more than 316,000 customers had lost power. The outages were caused by the mixture of precipitation and wind, which weighed down the vegetation, causing branches and trees to fall on the lines. Public Security Minister François Bonnardel has put a coordination center in place to deal with the storm.
