Heatwave in India Claims Dozens of Lives in Two States and Hospitalizes Hundreds.

At least 96 people have died in India due to a sweltering heat wave in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh and eastern Bihar. Most of the fatalities were over 60 years old and had preexisting health conditions, which may have been exacerbated by the intense heat. The state's health minister has opened an investigation into the cause of death of "so many people" in Ballia. The main summer months are generally the hottest in most of India, before monsoon rains bring in cooler temperatures.
