Record-breaking Heatwave in Switzerland Pushes Zero-Degree Line to New Heights

Swiss meteorologists climbed to a record altitude of almost 5,300 meters to measure the zero degree isotherm, or freezing point, as the country experiences a heatwave with temperatures exceeding 30°C. The previous record was set last year at 5,184 meters. The zero degree isotherm plays a crucial role in weather forecasting and impacts vegetation, snowfall limits, and the water cycle in the Alpine region. The heatwave is expected to continue until Thursday, with highs of 37°C.
