Russian and Syrian Airstrikes Intensify, Killing Dozens in Rebel-Held Areas

Syria and Russia conducted joint airstrikes against Islamist-led rebels who have taken control of Aleppo, marking a significant shift in the Syrian conflict. The offensive by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and allied factions has resulted in the first loss of Aleppo by government forces since the civil war began. The strikes killed 11 civilians, including children, in Idlib province. Russia and Iran reaffirmed their support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, while the U.S. and allies called for de-escalation and protection of civilians.
