Oslo Gears Up for Historic Royal Farewell to King Harald V

Norway is staging the largest security operation in its history for the state funeral of King Harald V on Sept. 9 in Oslo, a day that will bring Europe’s monarchies together for what’s described as a royal summit. The procession from the Royal Palace to Oslo Cathedral will carry the king’s coffin into a solemn service, followed by a private rite at Akershus Castle Church and a balcony appearance at the Royal Palace, marking a final farewell to a monarch who reigned for 35 years.
