Surrey’s 117-year milestone: Ethel Caterham crowned world’s oldest living person
Ethel Caterham, a 117-year-old resident of a Surrey care home, was recognized as the world’s oldest living person by Guinness World Records in spring 2025 and celebrated her 117th birthday with a quiet party at the home; she is the first British person to reach 117, a last surviving subject of Edward VII, and recently recalled a visit from King Charles III in September as part of her remarkable year of “firsts.”
