Germany and Netherlands Establish 1GNC to Lead NATO Deterrence in the Baltics
Germany and the Netherlands will establish a joint NATO command centre, 1GNC, to lead forces on NATO's eastern flank in the Baltic region (Estonia and Latvia), strengthening deterrence against Russia. The unit, part of the German-Netherlands Corps based in Münster, can command up to 50,000 troops and will be led by Germany until early 2028, expanding NATO's Baltic deterrence beyond the Szczecin-based HQ.
