Adams Endorses Comer for Kentucky Governor, Ending 2027 Speculation
Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams announced on August 1, 2026, that he will not run for governor in 2027. Instead, he endorsed U.S. Rep. James Comer at the Fancy Farm picnic, urging Republicans to unite behind Comer to avoid a fractured primary. Adams cited recent GOP losses in statewide offices as a reason to support a stronger candidate. Comer, who has not yet declared, expressed surprise but welcomed the endorsement. The move clears the path for Comer, who is expected to decide on a run after the November elections. Democrats Jacqueline Coleman and Rocky Adkins have already launched campaigns for the open governor’s race.
