Rails Founder DHH Abandons Hand-Coded Ruby for AI Agents at 37signals
David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of Ruby on Rails and CEO of 37signals, announced at Rails World 2026 that his company has officially stopped writing code by hand. Hansson declared that AI agents are now the default for development, with manual coding reserved only for fixing agent errors. This marks a sharp reversal for a figure known for championing handcrafted software, though he admitted that applying this method to legacy systems like Basecamp remains challenging.
