Tesla Expands 4680 Battery Cell Production in California with New Facility
Tesla is preparing to increase its in-house production of the proprietary 4680 battery cells near its EV factory in Fremont, California. The company has leased 210,000 square feet of manufacturing space from Prologis for essential battery tech and manufacturing. Tesla has already tripled its internal 4680 cell output and aims to reach a production capacity of 100 GWh annually. The company will continue to look at different battery cell shapes, sizes, and chemistries and rely on other partners to help supply it with the batteries it needs in addition to those it's producing in-house.
