Bend Teacher Corrects Hero Narrative as Investigators Probe Extremist Links
Becky Drury, a teacher wounded in the October 15 shooting at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, released a statement correcting earlier reports that she shielded a student. She stated she was shot at close range before she could act and subsequently played dead to survive. The attack, carried out by 16-year-old Griffin J. John II, killed four people, including the youngest victim ever in a U.S. school shooting. Federal and state investigators are probing links between the shooter and the online extremist group '764.'
