WWII Fighter Plane Takes Down Jets in Vietnam.

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider, a piston-engine propeller plane designed for the US Navy during World War II, held its own even as the US embraced jet-powered aircraft. The Skyraider continued fighting well into the 1970s and has gone down as one of the best attack aircraft of all time. The plane was used in the Vietnam War and even managed to down MiG-17 fighter jets on two occasions. By the time production ceased in 1957, 3,180 Skyraiders had been built and delivered.

WWII A-1 Skyraider Fighter Proves Its Worth in Vietnam Combat.

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider, a piston-engine propeller plane designed for the US Navy in World War II, continued to see combat in the Vietnam War alongside jet-powered aircraft. The Skyraider proved to be an excellent ground-attack aircraft and was able to deliver 8,000 pounds of bombs with precision while taking a massive amount of fire thanks to its armor plating. Despite being designed for WWII, the A-1 Skyraider has gone down as one of the best attack aircraft of all time.
