Rays Select AECOM Hunt Turner as Stadium Construction Manager Amid Looming Votes
The Tampa Bay Rays have selected AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction as the construction manager for their proposed $2.3 billion stadium, aiming to begin work by November to meet a March 2029 opening deadline. County Commissioner Ken Hagan indicated that definitive votes by the city and county are likely to be scheduled for next week, following the contractor selection. The project faces ongoing negotiations regarding public financing, with the Rays committed to spending over $1.2 billion and seeking nearly $1 million in public contributions. Hagan expressed 85% confidence in the deal's success, emphasizing the need for City Council to vote before the County Commission to avoid previous procedural delays. The stadium will be built on the Hillsborough College Dale Mabry campus, with land-use changes pending review by the Hillsborough Planning Commission in November.
