NYC's 400-Page Equity Plan Faces Implementation Scrutiny and Legal Backlash
Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration released a 400-page Racial Equity Plan on Tuesday, outlining 200 goals across 45 agencies to address disparities in housing, health, and employment by 2034. While the plan includes specific metrics like reducing Black unemployment from 8.5% and connecting 90% of NYCHA households to free internet by 2028, critics argue it lacks concrete implementation details, particularly in criminal justice. The release follows a court ruling that both Mamdani and former Mayor Eric Adams violated city charter deadlines for previous equity reports. The administration now plans to integrate equity reviews into the fiscal year 2028 budget, though skeptics question whether the broad goals will translate into measurable change.
