GoPro Finds Buyer: $285M Deal With Starman Optical to Pivot into AI Data-Center Optics
GoPro is selling to Starman Optical in a $285 million cash deal that leaves existing holders with roughly 10% of the recapitalized firm and fully retires about $92 million of debt. The merged group, via Starman New Photonics, plans to attach GoPro’s imaging patents to a U.S.-based optical-transceiver business aimed at AI data centers, with a Warren, New Jersey plant and a $150 million investment. GoPro will continue selling cameras and supporting subscriptions, but the deal signals a pivot toward optics for defense, government, and data-center markets, subject to stockholder and regulatory approvals for a year-end close.
