Banks go AI-first: Customers Bank partners with OpenAI to automate lending
Customers Bank signs a multiyear OpenAI deal to embed engineers and build AI agents across lending, onboarding, deposits and payments, aiming to cut commercial loan closing from 30–45 days to about 7 days and onboarding to under 20 minutes, lift its efficiency ratio to the low 40s, and potentially co‑create tools that OpenAI could sell to other banks; the bank even staged an AI clone to deliver prepared remarks on its Q1 earnings call.
