Freshfields Managing Partner’s Misdirected Email Exposes AI Spinoff Plans and Offends Middle Eastern Clients
Freshfields global managing partner Alan Mason accidentally forwarded a confidential email chain regarding the potential spinoff of the firm’s AI unit, Freshfields Lab, to the entire firm. The leak revealed plans to seek outside investors and included a comment by partner Ethan Klingsberg suggesting that 'Middle Eastern sovereign wealth money' should be excluded from potential investors. The firm issued an unreserved apology, stating the comment did not reflect its beliefs, while acknowledging its significant client relationships in the region.
