Airport-linked malaria claims two Frankfurt Airport workers
Two workers at Frankfurt Airport died after contracting malaria believed to be spread by a mosquito carried into Germany on an aircraft; six employees were infected and four have recovered. Health authorities, including the Robert Koch Institute, say airport malaria is rare and are investigating, installing mosquito traps and planning genetic analysis to determine the mosquito's origin; the last airport-linked malaria case in Germany occurred in 2023 at Frankfurt.
