Plane-borne malaria strikes Frankfurt Airport, causing two deaths
Two workers at Frankfurt Airport, Germany's busiest, died after contracting malaria in a rare outbreak believed to be sparked by an Anopheles mosquito arriving on a plane; six airport employees were infected, four have recovered, and authorities have placed traps and sent captured mosquitoes to labs to determine origin. The Robert Koch Institute notes airport malaria is uncommon and the last Frankfurt case was in 2023.
