Tennessee governor backs renaming Nashville airport after Dolly Parton
Gov. Bill Lee and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority backed renaming Nashville International Airport in Dolly Parton’s honor, a move gaining momentum after Parton’s death and a 2025 petition that has attracted more than 155,000 signatures. If approved, Parton would become the first woman to have a U.S. airport named for her, but the plan would require revisiting the airport’s policy requiring honorees to be deceased for at least two years, with discussion expected at a September board meeting.
