A 30-year-old man, Stephan O. Varlmov, was shot in a SE Portland parking lot on July 31 and died at a hospital. A 45-year-old suspect, Jacob Ryan Clement, was arrested on August 1 and booked for second-degree murder. Clement has claimed he was firing an airsoft gun to deter the homeless; the investigation is ongoing and police listed case number 26-222287 for tips.
A man has built a miniature airsoft version of the Mk 15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon System in his garage. The airsoft Phalanx uses an airsoft M134 Minigun and can spray BB gun pellets at an astonishing rate. The real-life Phalanx is produced by Raytheon and is armed with a variant of the famous M61 Vulcan 20mm cannon. The airsoft Phalanx's dome serves as a tank holding in the region of 900,000 airsoft BB pellets. The miniature version stands at around 2.3 meters high, which includes its pedestal.
Guy Ritchie has revealed that he has not used real weapons on set since the tragic events on the set of Rust in October 2021. Speaking about his latest movie, The Covenant, Ritchie said that the team used Airsoft weaponry, which allowed for creative freedom and was safe. The movie, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, is based on the relationship between a U.S. Army sergeant and his interpreter in Afghanistan. Ritchie also discussed the importance of creating a positive and creative environment on set. The Covenant is out in movie theaters in the United States from Friday, April 21, 2023.
