Akron names contest winner to script opening drive for home opener
The University of Akron selected Marty Whims II, a longtime Zips season-ticket holder and CFO of Stark Enterprises, as the winner of the 'Offensive Coordinator of the Game' contest. Whims will collaborate with coach Joe Moorhead to script the opening drive for the Sept. 12 home game against Robert Morris, with Moorhead describing it as a genuine exchange of ideas and a prepped set of 12–16 opening plays. The promotion drew national attention and boosted season-ticket sales; nine finalists were announced in August.
