Andrew Lloyd Webber Opens Up About His Sobriety Journey
Andrew Lloyd Webber tells The Times he is a recovering alcoholic, sixteen months into sobriety after a longtime secret drinking pattern. He had stopped drinking during the School of Rock Broadway run in 2015–16 but began drinking secretly, and about 18 months ago faced a downhill spiral that troubled his family. After a failed clinic attempt, he found AA in Switzerland and the UK and now attends daily meetings, saying the program’s egalitarian, supportive environment has helped him recover. He apologizes to those affected and notes sobriety has improved his creativity and relationships.
