Alpes 2030 targets history: first gender-balanced Winter Games with new debuts
Alpes 2030 will be the first Winter Games to achieve gender parity with 3,046 athletes (1,525 women and 1,521 men) across 126 events (56 women’s, 55 men’s, 15 mixed). Freeride (ski and snowboard) and synchro9 (figure skating) debut; snowboard parallel giant slalom is retained, Nordic combined is removed. The IOC added 16 new events across four sports to boost gender equality and youth appeal, including ski mountaineering as a new sport, with Montgenèvre named as the host venue for that discipline.
