Walmart trims 1,000 roles to streamline ops and boost its tech-first push
Walmart has cut about 1,000 roles as it reorganizes under new CEO John Furner to simplify its operating structure and unify workflows on a single platform, accelerating its digital transformation and its marketplace/delivery push to compete with Amazon, Costco and Aldi. Many affected workers may be relocated to Bentonville or Northern California, and Walmart — the world’s largest retailer — employs about 2.1 million people as of January 31.
