Freddy Cannon, the rock-and-roll singer behind 'Palisades Park' and 'Tallahassee Lassie,' died at 89 in California, announced by iHeartRadio’s Tom Cuddy. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1936, he moved to Philadelphia on Dick Clark’s urging; his 1959 hit 'Tallahassee Lassie' peaked at No. 6, and 1962’s 'Palisades Park' reached No. 3. He became a frequent guest on American Bandstand with a record 110 appearances, published the memoir Where the Action Is! in 2011, and appeared in several films and TV roles. He is survived by his children, sister Mary Lou, and other relatives; his wife Jeanette and son John predeceased him.
