The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) on the International Space Station (ISS) is set for a major upgrade after more than a decade in space. The upgrade will enhance its ability to investigate dark matter-like signatures from cosmic rays, particularly focusing on the unusually high flux of positrons detected, which could be linked to dark matter. The new detector layer and radiative surfaces will significantly improve AMS's capabilities, with the upgrade scheduled for launch in 2026 to ensure it aligns with the ISS's deorbiting in 2030.
