Authorized Gilmore Girls Documentary Heads to HBO Max
HBO Max has begun production on an untitled, authorized Gilmore Girls documentary directed by Bonni Cohen and produced by Warner Horizon Unscripted Television and This Machine. The film will feature series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, executive producer Daniel Palladino, and star Lauren Graham, along with other cast and crew, and will include unseen behind-the-scenes footage and script pages to explain how the show became a cross-generational phenomenon. Executive producers include Mark Blatty, Jane Cha Cutler, R.J. Cutler, Elise Pearlstein, and Trevor Smith; Cohen and Melissa Robledo are producers. The project is the first authorized documentary about Gilmore Girls, with a related book by Sherman-Palladino and Graham due in fall 2027. The series previously found a Netflix-backed life with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016 and now streams on Hulu and Prime Video after leaving Netflix in June.
