Nationals Rout Phillies as Early-Season Slump Deepens
The Phillies were blown out 13-2 by the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park, dropping to 1-3 as Taijuan Walker allowed seven runs in 4 2/3 innings and the offense, hitting .189 as a team, failed to hold a lead in its first four games. Rafael Marchan provided the night’s bright spot with a two-run homer, while top hitters Turner, Schwarber, Harper and Bohm have yet to get going. Rob Thomson was ejected in the first inning for arguing a call, and rookie Andrew Painter is slated to make his big-league debut as the team looks for a turnaround.
