Ex-youth pastor dies in custody after 2006 murder charge in wife's death
A former Utah youth pastor, David Vander Meer, was charged with murdering his wife Bernadette in 2006 after investigators said he pushed her from Angels Landing in Zion National Park; Vander Meer died by suicide in custody days after his arrest, and prosecutors indicated the death did not appear accidental. The case also included allegations of an affair with an underage girl and a life-insurance payout connected to Bernadette’s death.
