Lead Contamination in Applesauce Products Causes Child Poisoning Cases
Missouri health officials have reported five cases of lead poisoning in children linked to certain applesauce products. The FDA has issued a recall for these products due to elevated levels of lead. The recalled products include WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches, Schnucks-brand cinnamon-flavored applesauce pouches and variety pack, and Weis-brand cinnamon applesauce pouches. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is working to ensure these products are not available for sale in the state. Lead poisoning can have short-term symptoms such as headache and vomiting, and long-term symptoms including fatigue and behavioral issues.
