New York Archdiocese to Pay $800M to Settle 1,300 Abuse Claims
The Archdiocese of New York has agreed to pay $800 million to settle claims from approximately 1,300 survivors of clergy sexual abuse. Archbishop Ronald Hicks confirmed the deal on October 24, noting it will be finalized in early November. This is the second-largest such settlement in the US, behind Los Angeles. The agreement avoids bankruptcy and includes a minimum payout of $250,000 per claimant.
