Iconic Cinerama Dome to Open Again in 2028 Under Sony-Alamo Drafthouse Revival
Sony Pictures Entertainment will restore and reopen the Hollywood Cinerama Dome in early 2028, with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema operating the venue (the dine-in experience will not be offered). Renovations begin next month, and Sony will also take over the neighboring ArcLight Hollywood. The 1963 landmark, a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument with 35mm/70mm projection, closed during the pandemic after Pacific Theatres’ bankruptcy, and executives say the project preserves the Dome’s iconic design while reviving a beloved moviegoing destination.
