Judge sentences NAU fraternity leader to 60 days in jail for pledge's fatal hazing
Carter Eslick, a former pledge master at Northern Arizona University, was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation for his role in the January 2026 death of 18-year-old Colin Daniel Martinez. Martinez died of acute alcohol toxicity with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.425%, more than five times the legal limit. Eslick pleaded guilty to a felony hazing charge after organizing a drinking game at an off-campus house. The judge emphasized that no one intervened to save Martinez, while the victim's family sought reform in Greek life rather than maximum prison time.
